This Homily was animated by Father Elisee Rutagambwa, SJ on the 18th day of September 2024 at Hekima College Chapel.en_US
In today’s gospel, Jesus notices how some children refuse to join in other children’s games, and compares them with the adults of his days who refuse to believe. He criticises his generation for their inability to accept John the Baptist or Himself. While they accuse John of being too austere, they see Jesus as too indulgent. None of them is an insipiring figure. While one is accused of being possessed by demons the other is a glutton and a drunkard who associate with siners. As if he is responding to this generation, St Paul invites them to a life of excellence, that is, a life inspired by love. Speaking about the supremacy of love, he underscores that while spiritual gifts are many- Knowledge, prophecy, gift of tongues, wisdom- love surpasses them all. All other gifts will pass away, but love will endure forever.en_US
