Abstract: Welcome to the Jesuit Historical Institute in Africa. The Institute was created by decision of Most Reverend Father Adolfo Nicolás, Superior General of the Society of Jesus, in the year 2010. It effectively opened its doors in 2012. At a time of shifting demographics in Global Christianity and Global Catholicism, Fr. Nicolás understood that it was time for Africans to have means to document and research their own history. The Institute’s mission was therefore to collect documents on the Society of Jesus worldwide and in Africa, and to promote scholarly research on the history of the largest Catholic religious order in existence......
