This Paper on Spiritual Exercises was written after Eight Days Retreat as part of coursework for theology formation to students.en_US
We approach the Spiritual Exercises with self-examination in mind, possibly even with some anxiety. If you are feeling exhausted by such ideas, you might be relieved to find that, I will encourage Jesus, not us will be the retreat's main character in my points for prayer. The main focus of my instructions will be on thinking about Jesus and his conception, life, death, and resurrection, even though we are here to pray and consider our lives in the light of Jesus. This will act as the center and foundation of the retreat. I, therefore, beg you to retire to a tidy corner of your rooms to reflect on, pray to, and ponder Jesus. One of my favorite passages in the New Testament (NT) says that we are to run the race that is set before us, keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus who is the one who leads the way. (Heb 12,1-2) I have selected Luke as the text for our retreat because I think it is more approachable and easier to follow than the other three gospels. One specific aspect of the gospel of Luke will help us on our trip. As you are all aware, Luke is also the author of the Acts of the Apostles in addition to the Gospel.en_US
