In the context of social media, traditional ways of communicating to help the souls in the Society have dramatically changed and there is a growing fear that the daily work of the Jesuits in directing retreats, offering spiritual direction, their correspondence with people of all classes and background might be lost, making it impossible for historians and experts on Ignatian Spirituality to know how this spirituality was practiced and lived in Africa in the 21st century. Yet, there are still, across Africa many Jesuits, members of the larger Ignatian Family, both consecrated and lay collaborators, who still write down their retreat notes, homilies, and reflections. Those can become important sources of history in the future.
