Abstract: Benedictine monasteries in the Middle Ages were blessed with some very fervent nuns whom the Lord favored with mystical experiences. Several of these nuns were active in Helfta in Saxony. The Abbess, Mother Gertrude of Hackerborn, and Sisters Gertrude and Mechtilde were notable.
