On 3 December 2014, I will complete my service as Provincial of Eastern Africa Province. It’s an auspicious date – the feast of St. Francis Xavier, the intrepid missionary to the Far East. A less known and little celebrated fact about the saint is his stopover in Malindi, Kenya, en route to India. Transitory though it was, he was the first Jesuit to set foot on our province of Eastern Africa. I wonder what he would make of the growth and progress of the Jesuits in Eastern Africa – since 1542!....en_US
