dc.description.abstractIn the past, a dirt road led to Kimwenza, where Fr. Henxthoven and Fr. Liagre had installed the first Jesuit mission in Zaire. To-day, the first thing that meets the eye is the church of Our Lady, where Fr. Mertens, formerly Assistant for Africa, is now parish priest. Then on the hillside, next to the cemetery where the pioneers like Fr. Liagre are buried, you catch sight of the complex of buildings which go to make up St. Peter Canisius. It is dominated by a rather odd looking tower - not a reminiscence of a European castle, but the water supply for the community......en_US
