Abstract: Formerly there were two Catholic Universities in Africa: «Lovanium» (in Congo, now Zaire) and «Roma» (in Lesotho), but after these Nations became independent, both universities became nationalized. Since then, despite the trend of the African governments to monopolize higher education, four Catholic Institutes have arisen, one each in Kinshasa (1975), Abidjan (1975), Nairobi (1981), Port-Harcourt (1981). They are mainly oriented towards ecclesiastical studies such as theology and catechetics, and also philosophy in Kinshasa.......
