Abstract: The first Jesuits that came to Zaire a hundred years ago settled down on a vast plateau that now accommodates a large complex of institutions: a parish church, a spiritual centre, a faculty of philosophy and an institute for advanced agroveterinary training. All around there are numerous other establishments, including many houses of formation, run by some 15 religious congregations with nearly 300 members, men and women.......
