Abstract: | The first two Jesuits who set foot upon the land of Egypt were slaves. One arrived in 1553; the other - Brother Fulgence Freire - came in 1561 and remained for four years. It was during this time that Fathers Christophe Rodriguez and Jean-Baptiste Eliano arrived in Cairo. |
