Abstract: This blueprint for a mission on which Ignatius had set his heart, to the point of offering to join the group of envoys, may well make depressing reading, shot through as it is with many of the narrow prejudices of a Roman Church still unaccustomed to respecting the rites of other Christian Churches. On the other hand, the breadth of vision, the originality, and ultimately the trust in the judgement of those being sent explain much of Ignatius' success as an inspirer of men.
