Abstract: Ignatius' voice can be clearly heard in several paragraphs of this letter - counselling gentleness and adaptability before dismissing men, advising against excessive hours of prayer, approving of the outward devotions and practices that formed part of the Church's life in the 76th century. Something of his world-wide interest is also evident. The letter has a tragic aspect to it, especially the final paragraph, when one realizes that the addressee had died (8 May 7553) before it was written.
