Abstract: These travel instructions were for five of the Jesuits whom Ignatius was sending to Ethiopia, a project dear to his heart. Two of them, Andres Ovieda and Melchior Carneiro, were to be ordained auxiliary bishops to assist João Nunes Barreto, the newly ordained ''patriarch'' of Ethiopia. No date is given to this document but since they were near Rome on September 15 getting ready for the journey and had already left Rome on September 15, the editors assigned the date given here.
